Chocolate Box Cottage

I don't think chocolate boxes have pretty pictures of thatched cottages on their lids any more (or if they do I haven't noticed any).  But in my youth this cottage at Kilmersdon in Somerset would have been ideal material for such a box.

It was raining so hard I had to use flash to photograph it and got somewhat damp in the priocess.  But it was worth it.

And this is the view from the front - not a bad one!

  1. That's just how I imagine cottages in your part of the world look like. Reminds me of a fairy tale come to life. I also loved the pics in your previous posts...the cathedral and the beautiful fall leaves!

  3. It is beautiful!! And I imagine it must cost the owners a fortune to keep it so well maintained; thatched roofs need a lot of expert care which does not come cheap. Fortunately, some people still care enough (and have the means) to make sure such beautiful cottages are still around.

  4. A lovely set of photos. That's one of the joys of motoring through the English countryside. Over the years, I've seen so many beautiful places similar to this that brighten my mental images on a grey day. And I love the fact that the owners can see the church tower across the fields. The sheep in the foreground is a perfect touch! xoxo

  5. I'd forgotten about chocolate box cottages. When they are mentioned I tend to think of the Barnardos charity box. Your choice is certainly a prime candidate.

  6. What a charming cottage... And yes, I'll take the box of chocolates too, please! ;) English cottages with thatched roofs always bring a childhood book character to mind for me... Milly-Molly, I have since learned that she's even called Milly-Molly-Mandy in English. (Swedish translators evidently thought that a bit too much for Swedish children, and skipped the Mandy!) I actually don't remember much about her except that she lived in a cottage with a thatched roof, though!

  9. Wow! Now I want to live in Jolly Old - in that cottage. What an excellent home to have.

  10. I remember the chocolate boxes with photos of cottages on the outside. I remember too some had lovely sceneries with horses grazing on a pasture.
You have brought back sweet childhood memories of both the imported UK chocolate boxes and the tempting treats inside.
